Fake Cheryl Cole Twitter account led users to 'swinging' site

A gang of suspected swingers set up a Twitter account pretending to be Cheryl Cole, the Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge, duping the likes of Stephen Fry and Chris Moyles, a Radio 1 presenter, into becoming her followers.



The fake account on the microblogging site described Ms Cole in the “Bio” section as: “Singer, Dancer, Judge and Climber” – In that order.” The latter description refers to her recent Red Nose charity climb up Mount Kilimanjaro, alongside the likes of fellow celebrity Mr Moyles. The radio presenter was totally convinced by the profile, tweeting as soon as the page appeared: “Cheryl Cole is now on Twitter.”

Ms Cole’s supposed profile image depicted her sporting a Comic Relief Red Nose, which attracted more that 31,161 followers to believe the account was real and sign up.The tricksters then began regularly updating her profile with tweets, but alarm bells began ringing when “Cheryl” directed users to a website for swingers. This post has now been removed.

Ms Cole has now learned of the fake site and insisted it has nothing to do with her. Her spokesperson confirmed last night that she did not have a Twitter account and the profile was a “total fake”.
