The documentary American Swing, about the hetero sex club Plato’s Retreat, opens at Quad Cinema today, but our Tim Murphy caught an early screening last week with “free-thinking adult couples” of yesteryear. “I was kind of scared. I wasn’t sure I could handle the nudity,” said a woman who visited the club once and promptly shed her clothes. В творчестве сразу же сконцентрировался на съемке обнаженной натуры. Постоянно занимался поисками близкого мне направления. Сначала увлекся стилизацией под ретро. В это время на меня сильно влияло творчество Яна Саудека (Jan Saudek). Позже переключился на doom, goth, dark эротику.
И в 2005 году пришел к fetish и BDSM тематике. До сих пор в моем творчестве эта тематика главенствующая. Впрочем я не останавливаюсь на достигнутом и всегда нахожусь в поиске. В BDSM фотографии меня интересуют отношения между людьми, эмоциональность, откровенность, интимность происходящего в кадре.
Моя философия в искусстве – максимальная откровенность. Как духовная так и физическая. Хочу показывать то, что является табу для многих. То, чем люди занимаются с «выключенным светом» и боятся об этом говорить, потому что социум считает это «извращением».
Думаю, что в современном мире всё меньше искренности и открытости – а именно это можно назвать извращением, потерей человеческой души и радости в отношениях.

The sea of naked bodies observed from a middle distance resembles nothing so much as a heaving sea of termites.
This fleeting glimpse of a mass orgy is the only genuinely disturbing image in “American Swing,” which interweaves reminiscences of onetime patrons with grainy, bleached-out scenes of party life inside the club at various points in its history along with the story of its founder, Larry Levenson. At the peak of the club’s popularity, Mr. Levenson, who boasted of having sex with as many as 10 women a night, was nicknamed the King of Swing. In clips from television interviews with Phil Donahue and David Susskind, Mr. Levenson comes across as a cheerfully messianic promoter of orgy-porgy freedom and enlightenment.
Like the owners of Studio 54, which flourished during the same era, Mr. Levenson and two other owners were convicted of tax evasion in 1981. After serving three years in Allenwood Federal Prison, he returned to Plato’s, which in 1980 had relocated from the Ansonia on the Upper West Side to a warehouse on West 34th Street. By this time its novelty had faded, and it had become a hub of prostitution. The AIDS epidemic was the final nail in the coffin. Mr. Levenson fell on hard times and died in January 1999.
Although “American Swing” pointedly goes out of its way to include positive testimonials from several women who patronized the club, it leaves you feeling queasy. Memories of hot times, after all, are just that: memories

I’VE just found out my parents are swingers. I don’t understand how they can do something like this just for sexual kicks.
I’m a 17-year-old girl and I recently found out what they were up to via our computer. I found stuff on there I wish I hadn’t seen.

To be honest I can barely look at them. I just can’t get my head round why they would want to risk a loving relationship for such (often dangerous) sexual kicks.
I’m really worried it could be damaging their emotional commitment to each other.
If they can sleep freely with other people, what would stop them going off and sleeping with someone else without permission?
My mum has always drummed into me about how serious sex is in a relationship.
She said my dad was the only person she’s been with and it made me respect her so much.
It made me feel guilty inside as I’ve already slept with three guys since I was 16.
Whenever we had a sex talk I felt dirty because of what my mum had said.
She thinks I’m still a virgin by the way. Yet they are obviously relaxed about sleeping with other people who may also have kids.
There is a small part of me that isn’t bothered because millions of couple do it - but I do feel like they’re hypocrites and I’m worried in case it all ends badly in divorce.
No wonder you feel angry and deceived. Your parents have given you one set of rules but lived by quite another themselves.
I’m accepting that you mean what you say, that you don’t want to confront them – at least for now (though I suspect what you know will come bursting out during a row one day). So try to accept that they are fallible human beings who are not managing to live by the guidelines they believe are right.
But that doesn’t make the guidelines wrong. Think your standards through for yourself. You’re right that deception isn’t good, that once you push the boundaries of sexual fidelity it generally increases the pressures on a relationship. Live by your own standards.
But forgive yourself for having had sex with three guys since you turned 16. That’s one area where your mum clearly would have no right to make you feel guilty. But do still look at those experiences and think whether they were ones that made you happy, so you can make good decisions for yourself in future.

An Interview with "America Swings" Photographer Naomi Harris

Photographer Naomi Harris (at left) was living in Miami, freelancing for the Miami Herald and New York Times, when she attended her first swing party. She was brought there by a friend she’d met at the local nude beach (“I don’t like tan lines and I don’t like bathing suits,” she says) and initially found herself horrified by the sight of frumpy attendees loading up on roast beef before heading to the backroom for an orgy. At the same time, though, she was intrigued.The result of her curiosity is the book America Swings (Taschen, $500), which was named as one of the ten best photography books of 2009 by American Photo. The book shows a world to which few photographers have been admitted—an alternate American Heartland where the phrase “good times with good neighbors” has a very particular meaning.
Longtime American Photo contributor Michael Kaplan recently sat down (fully clothed) with Harris to find out how she photographed the world of American swingers.

По моему, было бы меньше горя в мире, если бы все могли... очевидно, что люди сублимируют. У кого не стоит ( или в большинстве случаев!) плохо с этим, начинает самореализовываться во власти,намного реже в бизнесе.
Опять же эти больные ( по сути ) люди начинают искать источники вдохновения и возбуждения - оргии,извращения,дети,итд итп.
Вот откуда вся эта грязь. Им всё мало, они хотят больше и глубже. А на самом деле человеку отпущено ровно столько ощущений, сколько отпущено и нельзя их брать в долг ( вернее можно, см. на примере наркотиков ) , но после сильного UP наступает ещё более сильный DOWN.Так и сексом, если нам отпущено X-оргазмов и Y-ощущений, НЕ НУЖНО ИСКАТЬ И СТРЕМИТЬСЯ К БОЛЬШЕМУ!
Начинаются мальчики в баню, 20 моделей на курорт и тд ( см. "Широко закрытые глаза", фильмы Р. Полянского "Горькая луна" и другие) . Эта необузданная страсть к хорошему не приводит, как сказал герой фильма этого фильма "..Она хотела всё больше и больше ощущений и секса,хотела выйти на новые уровни и горизонты..".
Всё это плохо кончается ( каламбур)...

Сенсацию произвело в Италии решение властей открыть для туристов так называемый секретный кабинет королевского дворца, который был замурован с 1851 года и скрывал от посетителей 387 экспонатов античной культуры, найденных при раскопках двух древних городов - Помпеи и Геркуланума, погребенных 2 тысячи лет назад под пеплом Везувия.
У дверей висит табличка: "Детям до 14 вход воспрещается, с 14 до 16 - только в сопровождении родителей".
Причина - эротическое содержание экспозиции, открывающей мир раскрепощенных нравов
Древнего Рима.
В кабинете запрещено делать записи и зарисовки. В нем собраны вещи, которые отрясали европейцев непристойностью. Эротические амулеты и подвески в форме фаллоса, фрески откровенных сцен из жизни богов и людей, бронзовые сатиры в неуемном бесконечном сексе.
Здесь хранилось огромное количество предметов непристойного культа" - так европейцы прошлого века называли мастурбацию. Сохранилось множество письменных воспоминаний путешествующих гостей дворца. Один историк рассказывал, как был поражен видом двух порнографических мраморных монументов. Одна скульптура изображала античного бога плодородия Пана, известного своим пристрастием к вину и веселью, ублажающего козу, поваленную в траву и крепко схваченную им за копыта, а другая демонстрировала, что Пан не брезгует развлекаться теми же проказами и с козлом.

Seven sexy scifi films adapted by the adult film industry for its own interests, including a remake of King Kong even worse than the 1976 version
When 4-Play swingers club opens its doors next month, there will be a small treasure chest full of free condoms for everyone to use.
They will be mandatory for anyone who makes use of several "playrooms" on the second floor of the club, an empty cinema at 10120 156 St., which will include one with an erotic swing and another with a bed so massive it will hold four queen-sized mattresses.
"But people have to realize," says Roy, one of 4-Play's members, "the swing lifestyle isn't all about sex. It's about relationships. I'd say it's 80% social and 20% sexual."
The club's main floor will be a tasteful lounge, complete with a fireplace in one corner and a small, secluded dance floor.

That's where members will spend most of their time.
"A lot of people don't (have sex at the club)," says Marie, one of 4-Play's owners. "Some rarely ever do, others only once in a while. This will be a nice, quiet, comfortable place to relax and enjoy some intelligent conversation."
Marie, her husband Joe and several members are hustling to finish work on their new digs, which they plan to open in mid-April.
They had originally hoped to open on Valentine's day, but work was delayed for several weeks when the landlord's development permit was suspended.
Outraged neighbours appealed the permit, fearing parking problems, noise, public drunkenness and alarm over allowing swingers to gather there would undo years of work trying to revitalize one of the roughest areas of the city.
The appeal was rejected on Thursday by City Hall's subdivision and development appeal board, and yesterday club members were back at work.
Edmonton's swing scene is fairly small, numbering in the hundreds, but it attracts a lot of curious people who check out the clubs.
The club, which has about 40 members ranging in age from 22 to 64, is one of three operating in the city, two of which have their own facilities.
Joe said a third, which caters to the city's wealthy socialites, has regular gatherings in various hotels in the area.

"Nothing could be further from the truth," says M.J., who's been "in the lifestyle" for three years. "This is all about openness and honesty. Our relationships are very healthy, healthier than a marriage where people are cheating on each other."
M.J., a mother of a young child, is outraged that some people would think that 4-Play poses some kind of threat to kids in the area.
"Our kids don't know what we do," she says. "Why would anyone involve their kids? Believe me, nobody's kids are going to get anywhere near this place."
Joe said he's met swingers in the city who are senior government officials, RCMP officers, doctors and lawyers.
"But it's not for everyone," adds Marie. "If you get jealous, don't come here."
She glances at Joe. "To this day, I just have to look at him and I get goosebumps. We're so in love. But I honestly don't care who he gets physical with, as long as he doesn't fall in love with anyone else."
Besides, she adds, they both can learn things from other sex partners and try them on each other.
All potential members and guests are screened through a phone interview.
"I ask very particular questions and if I get any hint of disrespect, then it's, 'I'm sorry, we're not for you.' "
Adulterers and cheats are not welcome, says Joe.
"Sometimes a guy will call and say he and his wife are interested, but she can't make it so he wants to come on his own and check it out. We just tell him to wait until his wife can join him."
Joe said since he's owned the club, there's only been one unruly guest, and he was told to leave as soon as there was any problem.

They will be mandatory for anyone who makes use of several "playrooms" on the second floor of the club, an empty cinema at 10120 156 St., which will include one with an erotic swing and another with a bed so massive it will hold four queen-sized mattresses.
"But people have to realize," says Roy, one of 4-Play's members, "the swing lifestyle isn't all about sex. It's about relationships. I'd say it's 80% social and 20% sexual."
The club's main floor will be a tasteful lounge, complete with a fireplace in one corner and a small, secluded dance floor.

That's where members will spend most of their time.
"A lot of people don't (have sex at the club)," says Marie, one of 4-Play's owners. "Some rarely ever do, others only once in a while. This will be a nice, quiet, comfortable place to relax and enjoy some intelligent conversation."
Marie, her husband Joe and several members are hustling to finish work on their new digs, which they plan to open in mid-April.
They had originally hoped to open on Valentine's day, but work was delayed for several weeks when the landlord's development permit was suspended.
Outraged neighbours appealed the permit, fearing parking problems, noise, public drunkenness and alarm over allowing swingers to gather there would undo years of work trying to revitalize one of the roughest areas of the city.
The appeal was rejected on Thursday by City Hall's subdivision and development appeal board, and yesterday club members were back at work.
Edmonton's swing scene is fairly small, numbering in the hundreds, but it attracts a lot of curious people who check out the clubs.
The club, which has about 40 members ranging in age from 22 to 64, is one of three operating in the city, two of which have their own facilities.
Joe said a third, which caters to the city's wealthy socialites, has regular gatherings in various hotels in the area.

EDMONTON - Edmonton residents who want to stop a swingers club from opening up in their neighbourhood descended on city hall Thursday.The west Edmonton residents are trying to persuade a city council committee to block the club from opening a lounge in a former cinema.
Neighbourhood leaders, business owners and a pastor all told the city's development appeal board that 4Play, as the group is called, is wrong for their area.
The 4play Club, described on its website as a "dance and social club for sexually open-minded couples and single women," had hoped to open on Valentine's Day weekend in a renovated theatre lobby on 156th Street.
While the board only has jurisdiction over planning issues such as parking, community residents have been vocal about their distaste for the activities of the club.
They said they would rather see something for young people, such as a bowling alley or a pool hall, go into the space.
The president of the non-profit 4play Club has said people have nothing to fear, saying the club has no tolerance for drugs and would not attract prostitutes because the sex is already free. The group had previously operated a similar facility elsewhere in the city.
Last month, the city released a Jasper Place revitalization strategy, which includes a call for bylaw restrictions to stop the creation or expansion of adult-oriented businesses.
The board was expected to make a decision later Thursday.

A tourist claims he was evicted from the adults only The White Cockatoo resort in Mossman, near Port Douglas, after he refused to bare all in front of three women.
John Harrison and his wife, Lyn, had their stay cut short after resort owner Tony Fox accused the couple of being "disrespectful" to other guests because Mr Harrison chose not to get naked ahead of a dinner date.
Police were called amid threats of violence and lewd behaviour to escort the Gold Coast couple from the resort on Tuesday night.
The nudist-friendly resort is hosting a month-long swingers' romp in a bid to boost business.
The 57-year-old business consultant told brisbanetimes.com.au he was having a conversation with Mr Fox and three nude women, when he was bailed up over his "dress sense".
"Fox turned to me out of the blue and said, 'Why are you dressed?'" Mr Harrison said.
"He then said, 'Well I think you're being disrespectful to these women [by] being dressed.'"
He claims he was then called a "d---head".
Within the hour, Mr Fox had evicted the couple.
Mr Fox, who spoke to brisbanetimes.com.au this morning, said Mr Harrison was thrown out after he confronted him violently.
"He threatened to bash me ... and only then did I order him off the premises," Mr Fox said.
The resort owner of seven years said Mr Harrison had behaved in a "lecherous manner" towards the women.
"I only asked him to show a bit of respect," Mr Fox said.
"The fact that he was dressed was only part of the picture.
"It was not the appropriate situation or circumstance for him to be fully dressed standing there with those ladies when they were so obviously upset about the fact that he was there."
Mr Fox said the resort - which uses the marketing slogan "almost anything goes" - banned only cameras and illegal drugs.
Mr Harrison has denied his behaviour was offensive.

Most of the guests were from interstate or overseas, he said.
“Certainly, the global economic crisis doesn’t affect our target market,” he said.
Mr Fox said apart from some religious leaders, the event had not met any opposition.
“Most people understand that with this level of business, they’ll get a slice of the pie,” he said.
“This is a half-million-dollar month for the town.
“The reality is, we’ve come up against zero opposition.”
Port Douglas Daintree Tourism executive officer Doug Ryan said the White Cockatoo’s promotion would help the industry during a soft season.
“If it’s legal and it works, do it,” he said.
“If you asked me if it’s detrimental to tourism, I’d say no.
“We are in tough times.
“They’ve found a niche market that suits their property - so good on them.”
Mr Fox said 24-hour security and surveillance cameras at the resort protected guests from the prying eyes of the public.
He said the Adults Only party would be extended to three months next year if it was successful.

"Swingtown" will close out the Paley Festival this year on April 24th with it's full season run, an after-party, and various cast members. Mike and Alan are scheduled so far for the Q&A. There will be 14 TV series all together viewed.
